Mark has been working his dogs for some years and came to the fore in competitions with his very successful Field Trial Champion Calderhey Adder. Sam is found in many Labrador pedigrees and has produced some excellent progeny. As a great trialling dog with an excellent temperament; Sam represented England in the Retriever Team and qualified for the I.G.L. three times in 2009, 2011 and 2012. Sam sadly passed away in December 2016 aged 10 and will be fondly remembered. In 2011 Mark began introducing his young dog Riley, Field Trial Champion Leacaz Ricky Of Caytonfell to competition. Riley is a strong dog with an excellent temperament. Riley has proved himself in working tests, field trials and is regularly out with Mark in the shooting season. Having represented England in the Retriever Team from 2012 to 2017 and an IGL Qualifier in 2013 and then again in 2017 when he was placed 3rd in a very strong field of 59 runners. Riley has produced some stunning offspring, spending some of December 2017 and January 2018 in Sweden on Stud duties. Sadly Riley passed away in November 2021and will always be remembered fondly by our whole family.
Mark's dog Fergie (FTW Burrendale Fergie Of Caytonfell) has been a real delight to work. Mark entered Fergie in his first competitive event in October 2018 (a Novice field trial) where he excelled and won out of novice, as well as Mark being awarded Best Handler.
Fergie accompanied Mark to Sweden/Denmark on stud duties during 2019 by invitation and is producing some great pups. He began his 2019 trialling in Opens. After decisive wins he DOUBLY qualified for the 2019 I.G.L. and the wins made him a Field Trial Champion. Fergie received a D.O.M. after 3 days of trialling at the I.G.L. 2019. For such a young dog he has been superb. Fergie is now living in Italy. Quinn has been an absolute delight to train and handle from being a young pup. He began his trialling life at 3 years old, winning an early Novice trial in September 2021 and then had only a couple of runs in Open trials (where he was 2nd and 3rd) before winning The Gamekeepers National Association Open trial in early October 2021 qualifying him for the 2021 IGL (which unfortunately he will have to miss, as Mark is judging the event).
A couple of weeks after winning his first Open 2 day trial, Quinn put in a great performance at the Usk Valley Working Gundog Club as they held their 2 Day Open AV Retriever Field Trial on 29th and 30th October 2021 - WHICH QUINN WON! At only 3 years old he has been outstanding; being chosen for the England Retriever Team 2021 (and being best team retriever in his first event). He has now doubly qualified for the 2021 IGL and also is now made up to my 4th FIELD TRIAL CHAMPION! I was so proud of Quinn qualifying again for the IGL in 2022. Whilst not in the awards he did extremely well. Quite a boy! Based in Lancashire, Caytonfell dogs are successfully used at stud and occasionally we breed a litter from carefully tested parents. Details of our current dogs are shown on their individual pages, together with details of any litters available.
As a Kennel Club 'A' Panel Field Trial Retriever judge, Mark travels extensively throughout the UK and Europe, where he is also requested to provide training to individuals and groups. Mark was honoured to be invited to Judge the I.G.L. in 2021. |
